Guest: Anthony LeMieux, terrorism expert and Associate Professor at Georgia State University.
Our government’s interactions with terrorists have changed drastically over the decades. Anthony uses the example of a recent capture of a terrorist in Libya to show how far our central intelligence and methods of capture have evolved.
Anthony LeMieux is a social psychologist who has had a long standing interest in terrorism. Over time, he has become especially curious about terrorism as a particular form of intergroup violence. Since 9/11, Lemieux has extensively researched and taught on the topics of terrorist motivations, radicalization and the psychology of terrorism from an interdisciplinary approach.
Guest: Becca Glass and Olivia Gulien, FLHS students and founders of a new club about distracted driving.
These two Fairfield Ludlowe High School students recently started a club to raise awareness to the distractions of drinking and driving, and texting and driving amongst adolescence. They are looking to actually influence teens, hoping that by talking to peers they can form a stronger connection and have greater influence. The girls also hope to raise awareness for HIV and AIDS in conjunction with World AIDS Day in December.
Guest: Gina Filippelli, co-chair of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut Celebrating Wishes Gala in November.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation believes that a wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a life-threatening medical condition. This belief guides them in everything they do. It inspires them to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids they serve.
Gina Filippelli has personal experience with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her youngest son was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 14, and successfully completed treatment. During this process her family was referred to Make-A-Wish, and her son chose to wish to meet Steve Jobs. After some time, his wish was granted, and the entire family travelled to San Francisco to spend the day with Apple and Steve Jobs.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut’s Celebrating Wishes Gala will be on Saturday, November 2nd, at the Greenwich Country Club. To buy tickets, visit www.ct.wish.org.
Trevor also discusses the subject of blended families and the five pitfalls when first blending families.
